A lot of style statements and new fashions came up in the decades of 70’s and 80’s. These innovative designs caught the attention of millions and ruled over their hearts.
70’s and 80’s are recalled by many as being the harbingers of different fashion styles and statements. The experiments done in designs impressed millions in those days. The fashion industry had a very fast transition during those years. The emergence of MTV revolutionised music industry, fashion and anything it can be related to. During those year people were trying to reinvent themselves to match the changing times. Such changes brought by people in them were quick and unceremonious.
People used to sport tight clothes on the upper half and loosely fitting fabric on the lower half in the 70s. This trend just reversed itself in 1980s. Women began to wear bolder dresses with shoulder pads. Men switched to wear full sleeve shirts crafted from costly fabric with baggy loose trousers which subsided on the lower portion.. “Romantic Movement” inspired by the former ruffians was commonly started by a new designer romantic look. The hot and fashionable outfits of leather and designer jeans also emerged later and became part of fashion.
Corporate women began to wearing pointed and high heeled shoes. At events, women wore glossy, bright colored and transparent shoes.. Jogging pants and tracksuits turned common leisure wear. Music bands with tattooed and pierced bodies and faded, acid washed jeans became very popular. Earrings became a trend for men to wear. Hairstyles also took quick strides and included a lot of mousse which gave the impact of a shiny convoluted look. Colored and streaked hair came into style. Women appeared in short and men in long hair.
People began to show off their wealth and position by wearing jewellery embedded with valuable stones. Women wore long outlandish earrings with different pairs. They also did not shy away from wearing single earrings. Fashion jewellery saw some new highs in the form of Fine gold and silver chains, punk style, and neon colours. Enamel and modern designs also gave some edge over the old jewellery. Men started to wear digital watches with metal bands but afterwards reverted to dialed watches. Kids popularized vibrant plastic watches. Roman numeral adorned the dials of wrist watches. Significantly the Movado design was a hallmark of status with lustrous design and a dot at 12. Once in a blue moon people also used multiple watch at the same time. People also made it a point to use fine gold bracelets and hoops earrings.
